ANDY Whing will be looking for his Banbury United side to build on their midweek win at Southport, a result which ended an 11-game winless streak.

The Puritans came back to win 2-1 in Vanarama National League North, and Whing was relieved to see his team have the luck on their side.

Banbury are eight points clear of the relegation zone, and with six games to play, Whing believes a few more results will ensure safety.

He said: “It was a much-needed result, performances have been good so I was pleased with the result.

“The last five or six performances have been very good without the results we deserve.

“Goalkeepers have been pulling off spectacular saves, shots hitting the post and the longer that goes on, the tougher it gets.

“A couple of points will do it now and we’ll know a lot more after the weekend.”

The Puritans face a trip to eighth-placed Gloucester City this afternoon.

Whing said: “It’ll be a tough game, they’re fighting for a play-off place and they’re in good form.

“It’s a 3G pitch, we haven’t played on one in a while so it’s always something that takes a little bit of time to get used to.”

Oxford City, unbeaten in five, are away at National League South champions-elect Ebbsfleet United.

North Leigh are away to promotion hopefuls Poole Town in Southern League Premier South.

Kidlington, seventh in Southern League Central Division, welcome second-placed Biggleswade tomorrow, while Thame United host Kempston Rovers.
