A superb performance by former Middlesex all-rounder Keith Dutch saw Tring Park inflict Oxford's first defeat of the season in Home Counties Premier League Division 1 on Saturday.

Dutch took 5-41 off 18 overs as Oxford were dismissed for 165 having won the toss and taken first knock.

And he followed that with an unbeaten 66 to see his side to an eight-wicket victory inside 46 overs as Oxford surrendered the leadership.

Skipper Jason Harrison probably regretted his decision to bat first as his side struggled to 82-3 off 38 overs at lunch.

Stewart Laudat held one end up with a fighting 61, but the turning point of the innings came in the 46th over when off spinner Dutch captured three wickets in four balls.

Pat Jobson went for 14 and then Tim Marcon, promoted to the first team after a recent Cockspur Cup century, and Todd Hutcheson were both caught first ball.

It left the visitors teetering on 112-7 and they were grateful for a ninth-wicket stand of 49 between Jack Brooks and Francois Vainker for their 66-over total of 165-9.

Oxford introduced veteran spinner Rupert Evans in only the sixth over of Tring's reply and he obliged with a wicket in his first over with the score on 22.

And when Vainker sent back Matt Bowyer for 19 on 73, Oxford were in with a shout.

However, Dutch and South African import Morne Van Vuuren stood firm in an unbeaten 96-run partnership.

Dutch's 66 came off 96 balls, while Van Vuuren was somewhat quicker, with 71 off 80 deliveries as Tring eased home in 45.4 overs.
