We have had two weeks now where we have been able to train together, get new ideas across and work with real focus and intensity ahead of today’s game at Peterborough.

Last weekend’s game against Cheltenham was postponed due to the international break so we have been able to put in some quality work on the training pitches.

The players and staff have been excellent, we feel like we are in a good place and now comes the most important part of it all: making it count for something in a match situation.

Peterborough are a good team and are still chasing the play-off places so we are under no illusions about our task today, but any team you play has its weaknesses and we have to try to exploit those while utilising our own strengths.

Other teams know we have good players who will be highly motivated because we definitely have something to play for right now, and that will make us a dangerous side to play against.

One of the key things we need at the moment is to try to keep the emotions in check, on the pitch and on the bench.

It’s easy to overthink things when you are in our position in the league. A goal at either end can seem massive, each decision seems magnified.

You have to try to block that out and stay on an even keel.

If a player makes a mistake they need to try to rectify it but not by charging the length of the pitch and getting a card through frustration.

The same if you score a goal; celebrate, enjoy the moment with the fans, then get back into shape and keep doing the same things that got you that chance in the first place.

Where we do want passion is from the fans. I thought they were excellent at Morecambe- it’s a long journey and we appreciate the support they gave us.

Today there will be a few more and then next week we have the first home game, against Sheffield Wednesday where we hope for a huge crowd.

If you read this and were wondering how to spend Good Friday then come along and get behind us because that support is going to be crucial.

Before that though, let’s put all of our energy into getting back to winning ways today.

It was good to formally announce Ed Waldron as our Head of Recruitment this week, a crucial role at any football club.

I like the way we do things- Ed has worked his way up and fully deserves his chance, but at the same time he wouldn’t have been offered the role unless everyone had complete faith in him, and by that I mean the Board and  those around him every day at the Training Ground.

I will work closely with him and the recruitment team; that has started already and not just with this summer in mind.

You need to plan ahead, you need to integrate it with the Academy, and you need a strategic plan in place that ensures you are always working beyond just the short-term future.

That’s exciting and with Ed in place I am sure we are in very good hands.
