BANBURY United fell to a defeat on home soil despite playing the majority of the game with an extra man.

The Puritans almost made a rapid start against bottom side AFC Telford United, when Ben Acquaye’s deflected effort went just over the top of the crossbar with two minutes on the clock.

The away side’s Luke Burke was then shown a straight red card after 25 minutes for a challenge on Acquaye, with Andy Whing’s team taking full advantage a few minutes later.

It was Acquaye again at the heart of things when he cut inside from the left and shot into the bottom far corner.

The visitors levelled though just before the hour mark when Lewis Salmon headed in at the back post.

Fifteen minutes later, the Shropshire outfit countered from a Banbury corner to complete the comeback.

Kai Williams led the break before applying the finish himself after a lengthy run.

The Puritans ramped up the pressure in the closing stages but were unable to find an equaliser, leaving them 18th in Vanarama National League North, three points above the relegation zone.

Henry Landers came the closest to pulling Banbury level when he hit the post with a header.

Giorgio Rasulo then went through on goal but saw his effort saved, before a Kelvin Langmead header was ruled not to have crossed the line.
