OXFORD United slipped to 20th in Sky Bet League One after MK Dons won their third game on the bounce.
The U’s, not in action due to their home clash with Cheltenham Town being postponed following three international call-ups for the Robins, began the weekend 19th in the third tier and two points above the relegation zone.
That two-point gap still exists, however Liam Manning’s side have been leapfrogged by his former club MK Dons.
The Buckinghamshire outfit won 1-0 at home to Morecambe, Jonathan Leko scoring the only goal of the game shortly before the hour mark.
Elsewhere at the bottom, Exeter City thumped 21st-placed Accrington Stanley 5-0, with Josh Key, Sam Nombe, James Scott and Jay Stansfield adding to Demetri Mitchell’s first half strike.
United loanee Matty Taylor netted his second goal for Port Vale as he opened the scoring in a 2-2 draw at John Mousinho’s Portsmouth.
Funso Ojo put Vale 2-0 up, however two goals in three second half minutes via a Colby Bishop penalty and Michael Jacobs ensured Pompey secured a point.
Peterborough United, who the U’s face when they return to action on April 1, closed the gap to the play-offs with a 2-0 win at home to sixth-placed Derby County.
Ephron Mason-Clark and Nathanael Ogbeta struck in the second half for the Posh.
