CIARON Brown made his 13th international appearance as Northern Ireland came out 2-0 winners against San Marino.
Michael O’Neill’s second spell as manager saw NI begin their Euro 2024 bid with a win away from home against the world’s lowest-ranked side.
In-form Bolton striker Dion Charles scored a goal in both halves to give the points to O’Neill’s men.
Brown played the majority of the game before being subbed off for Isaac Price in 82nd minute.
He was booked in the first half for stopping a San Marino counterattack.
NI’s Euro 2024 qualification draw saw them grouped with Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan and San Marino and was regarded as a potentially favourable draw to make the finals.
In September, Brown was an unused substitute for a win against Kosovo and defeat to Greece, both in the UEFA Nations League.
O’Neill returned for a second spell as Northern Ireland boss in December, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract which will run until Euro 2028.
He gave Brown his international debut in September 2019 as the defender started a 1-0 win at home to Luxembourg.
Also included in the Northern Ireland squad for this month’s qualifiers is former U’s man Gavin Whyte.
O’Neill’s men host Finland at Windsor Park on Sunday.
