After a really busy first week it will be good to finally get out there and take charge of the team for the first time when we travel to Morecambe today.

I thought as a first go at writing this page I might try and talk you through the first week from my perspective.

It actually started on the Sunday when a few of the staff came in and helped me get settled in, important because I wanted to change one or two things around and make sure we all knew what we would be doing on the Monday morning.

On Monday we held an all staff meeting at 8.30. That will happen each week and just helps everyone plan ahead.

A little later we had the first meeting with the players and then after they did their prehab we got out on to the training pitches for the first time.

We picked the windiest day this year but I think we got our messages across despite the conditions!

That afternoon we did the first press conference and either side of that, and throughout Tuesday, I tried to hold one to one meetings with as many players as possible.

Naturally I have seen them play before and some, like Marcus Browne, I have worked with but they all start with the same opportunity and that has meant some really good training sessions.

OK, we are on a poor run of results but all I have seen is a group of players straining to be in the team today and ready to try and turn that around.

The attitude has been spot on and I want to take the opportunity to thank the players and the staff for working so hard and making this week as smooth a transition as we could have asked for.

On Thursday we worked on shape and one or two things specific to today’s game, then we trained on Friday morning before travelling up for an overnight stay ahead of the game.

It’s a long journey but I know that Oxford fans always travel so well and there will be a loud and vocal crowd in the away end today.

That’s perfect: our job is to give you something to cheer and support.

I walked round the training ground on Monday and the walls are full of pictures of players like Joey Beauchamp, Micky Lewis, John Aldridge, James Constable and Kemar Roofe.

Players from every era, players who loved the club and who were loved by the fans.

Why were those players loved? Because as well as their talent they all had that same passion and gave absolutely everything in every match. That’s a good starting point for the players who pull on the yellow shirts today.

I've had to answer two questions more than any others this week so let me answer them for you.

YES, we have seen the league table and the run we are on and we do believe we have the players to get us out of trouble.

And secondly, yes, I do know who the local rivals are and we definitely do not want to be playing them in League 2 next season!

The Cheltenham game being called off next week isn’t ideal because I was really looking forward to that: my first home game and a chance to meet the fans properly.

It was postponed because of Cheltenham’s international call ups and there is little we can do about that but what it does do is give us a little extra time to put our stamp on things next week.

Hopefully on the back of a win today.
