Former Oxford United manager Karl Robinson has spoken out for the first time since his sacking.

There is mounting uncertainty over who will be replacing Robinson as the club’s manager.

Speaking for the first time since his dismissal following the 3-0 home loss to Bristol Rovers, the former manager has revealed he has no complaints and believes it was the correct decision.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “The decision was correct. I don’t have any gripes. Results over last two months have been really poor.

“I loved every second there and wish them all the luck in the world.”

Robinson had been in charge of Oxford United for five years, but a poor season has seen the U’s slip down the table.

He said: “When you are in the middle of something, you are on a rollercoaster and you don’t know sometimes what way to turn.

"You know results aren’t good, you know you’ve got one or two games left.

“When you get that phone call on a Sunday morning you do get that moment when your stomach does drop a little bit and from there you have to accept the consequences of the results.

“We all know when we enter this industry, especially as a manager, that being sacked is all part and parcel of it and that’s unfortunate for us, for me personally, but the results were nowhere near good enough.”

In recent months, Robinson spoke openly about the abuse his family were receiving from fans as results worsened.

He added: “My daughter got constant criticism on Instagram and some horrendous things sent to her over the last two, three months.

“I’m sick and tired of the old ‘it’s part and parcel, you get paid to do it’ – we get paid to take criticism, but our families don’t get paid to listen to that.

“When you go into a football club that’s your moment to change things and be dynamic in all of the things you want to do.

“When you’re coming away from it, it might seem slightly stale and that’s the bit you’re at your lowest point – that’s where the board have to make a decision as well.

“I think the decision they made was right for the results and I respected that 100 per cent.”

Robinson took over as head coach at United in March 2018, exactly two months after Spanish boss Pep Clotet was sacked.

Last season, Robinson led the side to eighth in Sky Bet League One, seven points adrift of the play-off places.

This season though has been one of struggle, compounded by the recent run of form.

In the days that have followed the manager axing, a number of names have been mooted as potential successors.
