FORMER Oxford United captain Curtis Nelson has reunited with an ex-manager at Blackpool.

Nelson left Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City by mutual consent yesterday afternoon, with his switch to league rivals the Seasiders confirmed shortly after their Emirates FA Cup defeat at Southampton.

The 29-year-old centre back has joined Blackpool on a deal until the end of the season, where he links up again with his former Bluebirds boss Mick McCarthy.

Former Republic of Ireland manager McCarthy took over the reins at Blackpool earlier this month, following the sacking of former U’s boss Michael Appleton.

Nelson made 121 appearances for United, scoring eight goals during a three-year spell with the club.

After signing for Blackpool, Nelson said: “This deal has been a long time coming, and I’m delighted to finally be here.

“I’m an out and out defender and bring a good amount of experience to the side.

“I ultimately like to keep the ball out of the back of the net, and hopefully my leadership qualities will shine through over the course of the next few months.

“I’ve worked with the gaffer previously for around 18 months at Cardiff, so I know the qualities he brings as a head coach and I really can’t wait to work him and Terry [Connor] again.”
