OXFORD City moved back into the Vanarama National League South top seven with a 2-1 win at home to fellow play-off chasers St Albans City.

Goals either side of half-time from Lewis Coyle and Josh Parker put the Hoops 2-0 up, before Ryan Blackman pulled one back for the visitors.

Jack Davies was registered in time to make the starting line-up, replacing Lewis Miccio.

Davies played 19 times for City while on loan from Sky Bet League One side MK Dons last season.

The centre back is set to spend the remainder of the season with the Hoops, who began the game against St Albans on the front foot.

With two minutes on the clock, Parker latched onto a looped through ball from Zac McEachran but the striker hit the post with his effort.

City went close again on the half hour mark when Josh Ashby dragged a shot wide on his 200th appearance for the club.

In first half stoppage time, Coyle burst into the penalty area and drilled a fierce effort into the net.

City doubled their lead two minutes into the second half when Alfie Potter whipped a low cross into the box and Parker applied the finishing touch.

The Hoops had a penalty shout turned down with an hour played when Coyle was bundled over and when play was waved on, Potter blazed a shot over the crossbar after forcing his way into the box.

The away side pulled themselves to within a goal of City when Blackman found the top corner from 25 yards.

The Hoops held firm as St Albans launched attacks on the City goal, with Canice Carroll doing particularly well to stop the league’s top scorer Shaun Jeffers from levelling with two minutes to go.

Ross Jenkins’ side held on though as they leapfrogged Eastbourne Borough into seventh, behind St Albans on goal difference.
