OXFORD United have made their second signing of the January transfer window after completing a loan deal for Hull City’s Brandon Fleming.

The 23-year-old defender – who was born in Hull – can play at left back or left wing back, and will remain with United until the end of the season.

Fleming has played four times for his hometown club so far this season, starting once, however his performances at the end of last season saw him rewarded with a new three-year contract in the summer.

He made the left wing back position his own, starting 15 of Hull’s final 19 games in Sky Bet Championship in 2021/22.

His displays saw him named in the Championship team of the week on three occasions and win the February and March player of the month awards for the Tigers.

Fleming signed his first professional contract with Hull in February 2017, and went on loan to then Vanarama National League North outfit Gainsborough Trinity the following February.

He spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, playing 10 times.

The defender will be available for Monday night’s Emirates FA Cup clash at home to Arsenal.

Fleming follows the arrival of 20-year-old centre back Stephan Negru, who joined the U’s on January 1 after agreeing a deal to sign from League of Ireland Premier Division side Shelbourne last month.
