BILLY Bodin hopes Oxford United can put their Boxing Day defeat at Ipswich Town behind them, by recording back-to-back victories at home.

United were comprehensively beaten 3-0 at Portman Road, bringing to an end their 10-game unbeaten run.

The games though come thick and fast in what is left of the festive period as the U’s welcome Charlton Athletic to the Kassam Stadium tomorrow evening, before Exeter City arrive on New Year’s Day.

United took 550 fans to Ipswich, contributing to a bumper crowd at Portman Road.

Bodin hopes he and his teammates can rectify the 3-0 loss in front of home support.

He said: “For 500 fans to travel this far on Boxing Day is unbelievable really.

“We’ve definitely got to put it right in the next two games and make it up to the fans that travelled.

“We’ve beaten Exeter twice this season and should’ve beaten Charlton away.

“They’re still going to be tough games even though we have played well against them this season.

“We’re hoping for two wins and that’s all we want to be honest, we’ll be working hard to put it right.”

Although he felt like the U’s performed well in the opening stages at Portman Road, Bodin rued missed opportunities.

“It was a disappointing day. The first 30 minutes, we were probably the better team and had chances,” he said.

“When you don’t finish them against good teams, you get punished.

“We’ll watch the game and see what we can improve on, but when you don’t put your chances away early doors against a big team like this, they’re going to punish you.”

He added: “It’s been the case pretty much all season.

“I remember the first game of the season against Derby, we had a few chances early doors and then all of a sudden, we stopped doing what we were doing and it ended 1-0.

“It’s happened too many times this season.

“We’ve got a few home games coming up and hopefully we can turn that round, and go on a little run.

“If we end up winning the two, we can probably forget about this.

“We’ve got to win them games no matter what and hopefully we can go on a nice little run, and start pushing forward.

“The talent is there to see, everyone knows we’ve got a talented squad, it’s just about gelling and really pulling together now.”

Bodin was most frustrated by the second half display in Suffolk, saying: “Two-nil is still a dangerous result, if we’d have pulled one back at any time in the second half and it was still 2-0, there’s a chance to nick another one.

“It’s frustrating because we wanted to come out in the second half and really go for it, and it didn’t work like that.”
