OXFORD United’s home game against Barnsley in Sky Bet League One has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
The fixture is one of several to be called off across the country, including other matches involving Oxfordshire sides.
A 9.30am pitch inspection saw the referee call the game off at the Kassam Stadium, with overnight temperatures falling as low as -7c according to the Met Office.
No new date for the rearranged game has been confirmed, however United said in a statement that tickets will remain valid for the new date.
The club said covers had been placed on the pitch, with precautions taken.
Barnsley said in a statement: “After undergoing an inspection on Saturday morning, the playing surface was deemed unsafe by the match officials.
“We apologise for the inconvenience to all supporters who have been affected by this postponement, especially as several Reds have already begun their journeys to the Kassam Stadium.”
Other matches to be called off in League One due to a frozen pitch include Portsmouth’s trip to Accrington Stanley and Morecambe’s home clash against Charlton Athletic.
Meanwhile, Oxford City’s trip to Eastbourne Borough in Vanarama National League South is set to go ahead, with Banbury United’s home clash with Curzon Ashton in National League North called off yesterday.
North Leigh’s Southern League Premier South home match against Dorchester Town was also called off this morning due to a frozen pitch.
