OXFORD United booked a place in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup after a 2-1 victory at a drenched Woking.

The U’s will host fellow Sky Bet League One side Exeter City after scraping past Woking, of the Vanarama National League.

In the pouring rain, Billy Bodin gave United the lead, touching home from a matter of yards, but Woking immediately came back into it through a stunning strike from Rohan Ince.

Tyler Goodrham restored the one-goal advantage for the U’s seven minutes after the break when he slid the ball past Craig Ross in the Woking goal.

Karl Robinson made just the four changes from the side which beat Port Vale 4-0.

One of those was in goal as Ed McGinty came in for Simon Eastwood, while Steve Seddon replaced Ciaron Brown at left back.

Cameron Brannagan returned from suspension, while Goodrham started on the right – that duo came into the side for James Henry and Marcus Browne.

In the torrential rain, it was the hosts who made better use of the conditions.

On 11 minutes, there was almost a remarkable own goal as the ball cannoned off Goodrham from 25 yards, and sailed over McGinty before smacking the crossbar.

At the other end, Elliott Moore sliced a volley into the hands of Ross in United’s first sniff of goal.

Marcus McGuane then fired high over the bar after a cutback from Goodrham on the right-hand side.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Jermaine Anderson cut inside from the left and struck a right-footed shot wide of the post, from the edge of the area.

Former U’s man Kyran Lofthouse then fired over from 25 yards, before Goodrham pinged a shot wide from 20 yards.

Woking continued to threaten though and got in behind United’s defence after a quick free kick.

Padraig Amond slipped down the right channel, but McGinty was sharp to save at his near post.

Anderson then curled a shot over the bar for the hosts on 33 minutes, with the U’s taking the lead five minutes later.

Bodin scrambled in from close range after Matty Taylor had prodded an effort goalwards, with the ball slowing down slightly on the drenched surface.

The lead didn’t last though as Ince curled in a delightful effort from the edge of the box, the ball sailing past the stretch of McGinty.

Bodin then fired wide within 30 seconds of the restart, after a cutback from Taylor on the right-hand side.

Woking continued to come at United though, with Lofthouse drifting a shot over the bar after McGinty had punched a corner clear.

The U’s restored their lead though when Brannagan played in Goodrham down the right channel, with the youngster sliding the ball beyond Ross from the angle.

The two sides shared five substitutions just after the hour mark, and one of them – United’s Browne sent an effort just wide of the post minutes later.

As the game ticked towards the final 10 minutes, the U’s had McGinty to thank after he produced a point-blank save from a Jack Roles header.

Woking kept coming though in the closing stages, with Jim Kellerman hitting the bar with an acrobatic effort and Jake Vokins whistling an effort just wide from 20 yards.

Despite putting the U’s under increasing pressure, Woking couldn’t find the equaliser that their efforts deserved.
