ANDY Whing is refusing to settle for less amid Banbury United’s drop in form.

The Puritans extended their winless run to eight matches in Vanarama National League North, after conceding a late equaliser at home to Chester in midweek.

Due to the club’s lightning start to the campaign, Whing’s side are still only three points outside the play-off places in their first season at this level following promotion last year.

Whing said: “I want to win games of football, I want to win every game we play.

“We strive in every training session and game, to be better.

“It’s a tough league and we’ve had a pretty bad run with illness and injuries, but we’ll get through it and keep playing the way we’ve been playing.”

The Puritans travel to Buxton tomorrow, coming up against a side which has won three games on the bounce in the league.

Whing said: “It’s another big team – it’s a 3G pitch, which I don’t really like and it’s frustrating.

“Their budget last season was massive, they’re a big football club with some good players.

“But as we keep doing, we’ll go out there looking for a win.”

Against Chester, the Puritans fell behind to a Kurt Willoughby penalty after 20 minutes, but brought the scores level three minutes later through Sam Brown.

Whing’s side then took the lead when Giorgio Rasulo netted on 64 minutes.

However, with two minutes to go, Anthony Dudley rescued a point for the visitors.

Despite conceding that late equaliser, Whing was delighted with the way his team played.

He said: “I thought we were brilliant, we’re just not getting what we deserve.

“Chester have been right up there with King’s Lynn as two of the toughest sides we’ve faced.

“They’ve got a big budget, with top players, and we should’ve beaten them.

“It says a lot that they were high-fiving and had music blaring from the dressing room because they got a point.

“I’m delighted with the players, they’ve been tremendous.”

On Tuesday, Oxford City were beaten 1-0 at Worthing in National League South, with Callum Kealy scoring the only goal of the game after 63 minutes.

The Hoops, ninth in the table, welcome Hemel Hempstead Town, in 13th, this weekend.

After the defeat against Worthing, head coach Ross Jenkins said: “There’s loads of positives, the only negative is that we didn’t put the ball in the goal.

“Hopefully we’ll put that right against a good Hemel team, but we need to earn the right and work hard.”
