KARL Robinson has expressed his frustration at Oxford United’s fixture schedule, with just two days in the middle of their Sky Bet League One games this week.

United’s Emirates FA Cup tie at Woking was due to take place on Sunday but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

With the U’s pencilled in to play on the Sunday, the League One trip to Shrewsbury Town was moved on 24 hours, from Tuesday to Wednesday this week.

It means United have just Thursday and Friday to recover, prior to welcoming Port Vale to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the FA Cup first round tie against Woking has been pushed back 24 hours from November 15 to November 16, after a request from the FA and its broadcast partners.

This is to allow the fixture to be broadcast overseas, although it won’t be available in the UK.

Tickets for the original date are still valid, United have confirmed.

On the postponement of the Woking game, Robinson said: “It’s not for me to make a comment on that, I wasn’t there so it’s not fair for me to say it should’ve been played.

“I was told by the referee that the ground needed two hours to get the pitch clear.

“The frustration for us is that we moved our Shrewsbury game, which meant less recovery time for the Port Vale game on Saturday.

“It’s crazy that at this level, we shouldn’t be at the mercy of what the TV broadcasters want to do.”

On preparing for Saturday, Robinson said: “Obviously we get less one day recovery.

“From a coaching point of view, we lose a day of coaching.

“If you play on the Tuesday, you can recover off the grass and have two days on the grass, whereas we probably don’t have any days off the grass.

“We’ve got to balance that Thursday and what we do on the grass and off the grass.”

One player set to miss out against Shrewsbury is Sam Long, who is still recovering from a hamstring complaint.

Robinson said: “He’s probably going to miss out, he’s on the grass at the minute so he’s in a good place.”
