JORDAN Flynn is gearing up for his final fight of 2022, building on his historic win at the Kassam Stadium last month.

Professional boxing hadn’t taken place in Oxford for 60 years, until unbeaten lightweight Flynn topped the card and beat Rustem Fatkhullin on points.

That victory took his record to 7-0 since turning professional, and the Cowley fighter is looking to push on by stepping into the ring for an eight-round bout.

Flynn’s win against Fatkhullin was his sixth six-round fight, and he knows going to eight rounds is the next step in going for a title in 2023.

He said: “My goal was to get as many fights I was able to this year, and this will be my fifth.

“I wanted to end this year with a fight so I can crack on next year with eight-round fights.

“I’m ready for eight rounds, so I don’t mind doing eight rounds if that’s the case for this fight.

“I’ve been doing eight-round sparring, but I’ll be aiming to finish this fight before then anyway.

“The most important thing is to win, winning with style and everything else is a bonus.

“It wouldn’t have been the end of the world if I didn’t get a fight in but it was a bit of a slow start when I turned professional, because of Covid.

“It’s nice to get a fight though because I want to progress my career and keep pushing on.

“I know how good I am and how good I can be – I want to show that in the ring.”

Flynn’s next fight sees him make the short trip to Swindon’s MECA venue on November 26.

Ensuring his next fight remained local following the Kassam bout was important to Flynn.

He said: “It was nice after the fight in Oxford, with everyone coming out to support me, so I wanted to go again and do something down the road in Swindon.

“Oxford and Swindon are rivals so that makes it extra special, with it being there.

“It gives everyone the chance to come and watch me again.

“It’s inspiring a younger generation in Oxford.

“That gives you a push and makes you want to train hard in every session.

“You know it’s motivating people, and that motivates me.”

After the Grenoble Road fight, Flynn spent a week in Tenerife, to rest up before another gruelling fitness camp.

He said: “I had a week off – my fight was on the Saturday and then I flew out to Tenerife on the Sunday to get some sun and rest.

“I’ve then got back into things, so I’ve not lost any fitness.

“I’ve got two or three weeks of hard work coming up, then we’ll be ready to go again.

“My fitness has always been good and that comes from training hard every single day.”
