TYLER Goodrham has signed a new contract which could keep him at Oxford United until 2025.

The 19-year-old forward has been a bright spark for the U’s in what has been a frustrating start to the season for the club.

Goodrham scored a sensational solo goal in stoppage time, during his league debut at home to Cambridge United earlier this season, and has since made a further 11 appearances in all competitions.

He signed his first professional contract with the U’s last summer, penning a one-year deal with the option of an extra 12 months.

The latest deal sees Goodrham extend his stay at United until 2024, with the option of a further year.

He said: “It’s a very positive time in my life and a very important milestone for me, this is what I’ve been pushing for.

“There’s always more to come and achieve.

“I’ve got good people around me, who push me and make sure I’m always on it.

“The boys always make sure you’re on it every single day.

“I just want to play football and play games, so when I can’t do that, it’s disappointing ,but at this point in my career, it’s much more beneficial for me to be training and being involved in the matchday squads.

“The gaffer knows best, and the coaching staff know best.

“So far for me, everything they’ve done has been positive and I think that reflects on my development.

“It’s about trying to play as minutes as possible, and trying to impress and show everyone what I can do.”

Asked whether a loan spell away from the U’s would be beneficial to him, Goodrham said: “At the start of the season, it was about trying to go out on loan and trying to play football, but in the situation I am now, everything’s changed.

“Right now, I’ll focus on where I am and where I can get to.”

United’s head coach Karl Robinson said: “He epitomises everything and he’s an important one because he’s for the future, and we’ve leaned on him a little bit too much.

“But leaning on him too much has given him this exposure so that’s why it was important to get this done.

“He’s a tremendous young footballer and one of the nicest young men you’ll ever meet.

“He’s got that tenacity to him as well. I’m so happy for him.”
