Didcot Tn 2 (Vine 30, 85)

Bridgwater Tn 0 (Clark 5, Young 31)

Ashley Vine's late strike, his second of the game, rescued a point for Didcot in an entertaining British Gas Business Southern League Division 1 encounter at Loop Meadow Stadium on Saturday.

With Fleet and Oxford City both, winning the result saw Didcot tumble down to fourth, and increasingly likely that they will be away from home in the play-off semi-final But with Didcot's home form so indifferent, this may not be a bad thing.

The game couldn't have started worse for Didcot with Bridgwater grabbing an early lead Keeper Michael Watkins spilled a routine cross and Tom Clark gleefully struck the ball home.

The home side were looking increasingly below-par, with passes going astray.

They were unable to gather any momentum in the final third of the pitch.

On the half-hour mark they did, however, draw level, when Matt Bicknell's super cross was headed home at the far post by Vine.

The cheers had hardly died down when the visitors immediately retook the lead.

Nat Pepperell's free-kick into the box was not cleared, and Chris Young cleverly hooked the ball home from eight yards.

Bicknell was narrowly off-target with a long-range volley, before Pete Monks made a vital clearance off the line from Andy Parrott's header.

The last chance of the first half fell to Bridgwater's Brett Trowbridge, who managed to round Watkins, but Didcot substitute Jamie Heapy was on hand to hook the ball away.

The home side were certainly better after the break. Paul Powell brought a great save from goalkeeper Tom Manley, who was then called into further action to deny Jack King.

The visitors always looked a threat going forward but failed to create too many clear-cut chances.

The best of them fell to Pepperell, who saw his header cleared by Andy Williams.

With time running out, Vine struck the outside of a post, and it looked as though it was not going to be Didcot's day.

However, with five minutes left, Vine pounced on some hesitant defending to fire the ball home right-footed from 12 yards.
