North Oxford plan to build on their centenary celebrations by improving their course and clubhouse.

The club, who turned 100 last year, are also reducing full membership fees and freezing subscription for juniors and students.

Chairman David Young said: "We had an outstanding centenary year and we are looking forward to a special start to our next century by offering the best value golf experience in the county."

North Oxford plan to turn the course pond into "a more challenging and eco-friendly water feature".

They will also build a new bridge, plant more trees and open two new teeing grounds.

North Oxford hope to negotiate cut-price fees for members to play other courses and offer them preferential rates at Heathfield Driving Range.

Full membership has been cut by £30 to £799 and professional caterers, Oxford Fine Dining, introduced.

Young said: "The course is already in top condition, and a strong test of golf. We want to mark the new era with something special.

"Our aim is to give the best golfing experience possible to our members.

"The new rates and package are without doubt the most attractive in the area."

  • Tony Kelly landed the second hole-in-one of his career during North Oxford's Harold Avery competition.

The 19-handicapper aced the 175-yard par-three sixth hole en route to finishing third.

  • Former Oxfordshire cricket skipper Phil Garner is to take over as The Wychwood's new captain.

Garner will drive in on April 5 alongside ladies' captain Pat Court and junior skipper Rob Knight.

The Wychwood's team of Derek Lafford, Phil Chisnall, Simon Carpenter, Jim Kearns, Phil Smith, Darren James and Terry Johnson defeated Carswell 5-2 in the Hillman Trophy.
