ROSS Jenkins is not looking at the Vanarama National League South table ahead of Oxford City’s trip to Welling United (3pm).

The head coach takes his side to south east London tomorrow looking for a fifth straight victory.

City have built a promising run of form since losing 3-1 to Eastbourne Borough on the opening day of the season, winning four games in a row without conceding.

Jenkins’ side are fifth in the table going into tomorrow’s match, but the head coach is not getting too excited yet.

He said: “The mood in the camp is quite good at the moment.

“The important thing is we don’t get carried away as it’s really early. Everyone’s still sounding each other out.

“It’s going to be a competitive league, a lot of teams have won a lot of games and people are racking up a bit of form early on.

“We need to stay focused and keep addressing every game as it comes.

“We’re playing well, but it means nothing because Saturday needs to be a big performance.”

One of the stars of City’s first month of the season has been striker Klaidi Lolos.

The summer signing has bagged five goals in five games, while last term’s top-scorer Joe Iaciofano has not made the squad for the last three matches.

Jenkins said: “Joe had a big season, I think he started every game. He scored a load of valuable goals.

“He’s got a bit of fatigue so it’s important we brought in players around him.

“We knew something like this was going to happen with one of our players from last season.

“The boys who have stepped in have been brilliant and that’s really good to see.”

Meanwhile, Banbury United will look to bounce back from a rare defeat when they take on Southport.

The Puritans went down 1-0 at Leamington on Monday, their first loss since January.

Andy Whing’s men remain second in National League South after taking 13 points from their opening six matches.

They host another former Football League side at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium, having beaten Darlington and phoenix club Hereford already this season.

Southport are 18th in National League North.
