Darren Patterson could not hide his frustration at referee Chris Sarginson after seeing his Oxford United side draw 0-0 at Forest Green on Saturday.

The U's had a blatant penalty turned down just minutes into the second-half, but United's boss said that just typified the official's day.

Patterson even felt it necessary to apologise to the supporters inside the ground for getting so wound up with Sarginson's decisions.

"I bet people thought I was having some sort of an epileptic fit on the bench today," he said.

"I am normally very calm and controlled, but I just couldn't be today with the decisions out there.

"I have to apologise for my behaviour on the touchline, but it was hard at times with what was going on.

"His (the referee's) performance was just astounding. His decisions from start to finish were just wrong - and every one he made went to them.

"I don't like ranting and raving about referees and musn't keep going on about it, but it was just petty and pathetic.

"I am delighted with my players though because not one of them got involved with him which was good to see."

The result ended United's hopes of a thrid straight win, but did end their run of away defeats.

Aside of the referee's display, Patterson felt his side were unlucky not to pick up three points.

"We had the better of the play, the better of the chances, but just couldn't find the breakthrough we deserved," he added.

"There were plenty of positives to come out of the game, and we are just very frustrated at not taking the three points."

United entertain Cambridge tomorrow night, looking to get back to winning ways.
