Banbury Utd 1 (Murphy 53)

Merthyr Tydfil 1 (M Griffiths 11)

Banbury are fast becoming the draw specialists in the Premier Division, having had to settle for a share of the spoils for the 13th time in 31 games on Saturday.

Merthyr took the lead in the 11th minute when they broke from deep.

From a long ball over the defence, Marcus Griffiths raced clear and coolly lobbed Andy Wheeler from the edge of the penalty area .

In the 21st minute, Merthyr had the ball in the net again, following a corner, but Dale Griffiths's effort was disallowed for a push.

Banbury drew level in the 53rd minute when Ady Fuller played the ball into the path of Matt Murphy on the right of the penalty area.

As keeper Ashley Morris advanced, Murphy slipped the ball past him with a 15-yard shot from a narrow angle.

It was another valuable point for Banbury, who now enter a period where suspensions to Lewis Travers, Wayne Blossom and new signing Craig Pearman, plus an injury to Andy Baird, will certainly test their strength and resolve.

Banbury Utd: Wheeler, Travers, Kinch, Essex, Blossom, Fuller, Stuart Bridges (Pearman 84), Williams, Murphy, Gordon, Scott Bridges (Stanbridge 30). Subs not used: Bryan, Gooderick, Sambrook.
