THE Oxford Mail player ratings for Oxford United’s Carabao Cup first-round tie with Swansea City.

The U’s won 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

ED MCGINTY

Endured a nightmare start to his debut with the handball outside the penalty area and took time to settle. Better in the second half and made a couple of good stops, before a brilliant penalty save. BOOKED – 7

JAMES GOLDING

Showed plenty of promise going forward in a role we had not seen him play. His positioning needs to be better defensively, but he is still learning – 6.5

ELLIOTT MOORE

One goal-saving clearance in the first half was the highlight of his night. Generally tidy and an aerial presence in both boxes – 6

CIARON BROWN

Put simply, he is a very good defender. A heroic block in the first half was followed by an equally good sliding tackle to stop Swansea getting in. Almost scored after the break. MAN OF THE MATCH – 7.5

STEVE SEDDON

Did not reach the levels he hit on Saturday and was replaced at half-time. Tidy in possession and won a few headers, but Sorinola caused him problems – 5.5

WATCH: Highlights of last night's game

JAMES HENRY

Bright in spells during the first half, providing the cross for Bodin’s early chance and firing wide from an inviting position. Delivery was good in his short cameo on the right – 6.5

ALEX GORRIN

A fortunate way to score his third U’s goal, not that it matters. Good to see him last 90 minutes after such a long spell out. Recovered possession well but occasionally sloppy with the ball – 7

LEWIS BATE

A classy 60 minutes from the loanee. Moved the ball with speed and purpose, always made the right decision. An early tackle showed he has bite to his game, too – 7

JODI JONES

Still a long way off the player he can be. Unable to get into the game during the first half and was substituted at the break – 4.5

BILLY BODIN

Karl Robinson admitted the forward was up front as a ‘stopgap’ and it showed. Missed an early chance and worked hard, but his best work came when he dropped deeper – 6

TYLER GOODRHAM

Another promising display after his match-winning cameo on Saturday. Quiet in the first half but influential in the second, particularly down the right. Saw a late chance saved one-on-one – 7

SUBSTITUTES

Cameron Brannagan (for Jones, 46)

Helped United stamp their authority on the game, especially in the last 30 minutes. Free-kick was slightly fortunate, but the penalty was empathic – 7.5

Stuart Findlay (for Seddon, 46)

The U’s looked very secure with him at centre back and Brown to the left. Tidy in possession, won plenty of headers – 6.5

Marcus Browne (for Henry, 61)

Involved straight away to put Swansea on the back foot. Another yellow card is a concern. BOOKED – 6.5

Marcus McGuane (for Bate, 61)

Continued his impressive start to the season with a classy 30 minutes – 6.5

Slavi Spasov (for Bodin, 79)

Unused: Eastwood, Long, Smyth, Taylor.

Substitutes who come on after the 75th minute do not get a rating.
