DARREN Patterson may take a risk again on Saturday by having no goalkeeper on the bench.

He said: "Against Histon was the first time I've gambled with no keeper on the bench.

"It's in no way reflective of Sam Warrell's ability, it was just that, being a home match and one we needed to win, goals were in the forefront of my mind.

"It would otherwise have been a question of who to have as a sub out of Danny Rose and Phil Trainer, and I thought I'd rather have both."

Former boss Jim Smith didn't risk having only outfield players on the bench, but Ian Atkins frequently did when he was manager, believing the benefits of more choice among the subs outweighed the disadvantage of not having a replacement goalkeeper.

And Patterson admitted it was even more of a gamble last weekend because Billy Turley was recovering from a shoulder injury.

"It was a big gamble really, but one I felt was worthwhile, and I may do it again tomorrow.

"It's not uncommon. Sheffield United did it almost the whole season when they were in the top flight."
