LEWIS Miccio has become Oxford City’s third signing in as many days.

The Australian left back follows Tom Harrison and Klaidi Lolos through the doors at Court Place Farm.

Miccio has impressed on trial with City in pre-season after helping Bedford Town win the Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central title last term.

And the 23-year-old is excited to test himself at a higher level.

“It’s great to be here,” he said.

“I’m happy to get the deal over the line and now I can get stuck into being an Oxford City player.”

Miccio lived in Australia and New Zealand as a child, coming through the youth system at A-League club Central Coast Mariners.

He moved to England and signed for Kidderminster Harriers before spells at Solihull Moors and Stourbridge.

The defender joined Bedford last August and quickly became a regular in a team that won Division 1 Central by ten points.

City have recruited several young players from higher divisions in recent seasons, but head coach Ross Jenkins believes it is also important to look down the football pyramid.

He said: “They’re sometimes gambles, but sometimes in life you’ve got to take a gamble. If you never give them a chance you’ll never know.

“We can give them the platform, it’s up for the player to take it.

“That’s not applying any sort of pressure, we do want to progress young players and when they step into our environment we’ll try to give them every tool we can to succeed.”
