OXFORD United are still on track to complete a deal for reported target Stuart Findlay, the Oxford Mail understands.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with the U’s and confirmed his exit from Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union after the weekend win over New England Revolution.

The game took place on Saturday evening US time and Findlay is believed to have flown to the UK afterwards to complete the deal.

The defender was out of favour at the American team but played two matches last week due to injuries to his teammates, delaying his proposed move to United.

Findlay came through Celtic’s academy before rising to prominence at Kilmarnock, where he earned his first call-up to the Scotland national team.

United were interested in signing him in 2019 but turned their attention elsewhere when the asking price proved too high.

Meanwhile, suggestions that the U’s are closing in on a deal for Irish goalkeeper Ed McGinty are understood to be accurate.

Reports in the Republic of Ireland suggest United will pay a five-figure fee for the 22-year-old, who has represented his country at Under 21 level.

McGinty plays for League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers and saved two penalties in his club’s shoot-out win over Bala Town in the Europa Conference League first qualifying round last Thursday.

U’s head coach Karl Robinson said on Saturday that he hoped to complete deals for three players this week.
