KARL Robinson opened up on Oxford United's 'frustrating' start to the transfer window as he looks to make headway this week.

The U's head coach revealed on Saturday that he hopes to complete deals for three targets in the coming days.

Ciaron Brown is United's only summer signing so far and several departures have left the club with only 17 senior players, less than two weeks out from the start of the Sky Bet League One season.

That number includes the injured Sam Long and Sam Baldock, while Alex Gorrin's return is still being managed and captain Elliott Moore picked up a hip issue against Coventry City on Saturday.

Robinson knows United need more squad depth and admitted some things have gone against the club in the window.

He said: “I’m happy with the players that are in the building, frustrated we haven’t got more.

“That’s not just me, everyone at this football club is working so hard and the shareholders are really aggressive in the decisions we’re trying to make.

“You wouldn’t believe some of the things that haven’t gone our way.

"Some of the names that have been brought up that have been injured to stop a player coming to us, you're like 'he's world class, so why is that player stopping my player coming to me?'.

“There’s one we’ll hopefully get done and we can explain the complications behind this deal, and it’s been going on a long time.

"For the players that we’ve got, we know we’re very thin on the ground.

"We're not going to be able to carry this amount of players for a season. We know it’ll constitute in a negative output but we still have good players, so from that point of view I’m still positive.”
