OXFORD City Stars have signed a member of last season’s treble winning Guildford Phoenix side.

D-Man Marcus Mitchell’s performances attracted interest from NIHL1 clubs this summer, and joins ex-teammate Josh Abbott in making the move to Oxford.

The 24-year-old said: “I’m very excited to be joining the City Stars with what they have planned for the upcoming season.

“After coming off the back of an amazing season, it’s a great time for me to debut into NIHL1 with a revamped team.

“I really like the ideas and plans Simon and Shane, and the directors, have for the club and am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.

“I’m looking forward to get going and can’t wait to have the great noisy fans cheering for the team.”

Stars head coach Simon Anderson added: “We fought off some top teams to get Marcus signed and I couldn’t be more delighted.

“Marcus is another big body to add to our D core and will be a great addition to help solidify our back end.

“He plays a simple game, makes a good first pass and has an impressive physical presence, which will endear him to the Stars fans I am sure.

“He had a successful season in Guildford last season not just trophy wise, but points wise as well and is ready to make the jump up to NIHL1 and we are excited to see him develop his game even further in a Stars jersey.”
