FORMER Oxford United Women forward Beth Lumsden has joined Southampton.

The 22-year-old signs for the south coast club following their promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship last season.

It comes after United announced last week that Lumsden and Kayleigh Hines would leave this summer.

Southampton were the only team to finish above the U’s in FA Women’s National League Southern Premier in 2021/22 and went on to beat Wolves in the promotion play-off.

Lumsden scored in United’s 3-3 draw with the Saints in April to end the campaign on 27 goals in 33 matches.

Her performances after arriving from Charlton Athletic last summer earned her the women’s supporters’ player of the year prize at the club’s end of season awards.

Southampton head coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale said: "Beth is going to bring a different element coming forwards.

“She’s a striker who can play in behind, she can come and receive to feet. She’s direct and she likes to take players on.

“She’s got all of the elements of a striker that you want and that will give us a different dimension going forward. She’s really excited to be here."
