OXFORD United will face Chelsea Under 21s in the Papa John’s Trophy, as their group was finalised.

The U’s have faced Chelsea’s youngsters twice in the Trophy in recent seasons.

A Blues side featuring Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah and Callum Hudson-Odoi romped to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge in January 2018.

The sides met again in September 2020 with Dan Agyei and Derick Osei scoring for the U’s in a 2-1 win at the Kassam Stadium.

On Monday, United learnt they would face Sky Bet League Two duo Leyton Orient and Sutton United in Southern Group H.

Karl Robinson’s side will be at home against Chelsea and one of the fourth tier sides.

The first round of games will take place in the week commencing August 29.

United have never faced Sutton in a competitive fixture, with the South London side the beaten finalists in last year’s Trophy final, against Rotherham United.

However, coming up against Orient provides contrasting memories for supporters.

The U’s lost 3-2 at home to the East London side on the final day of the 2005/06 season – with relegation from the Football League confirmed for United, while Orient sealed promotion.

Last season, United went out at the group stage of the Papa John’s Trophy, beating Tottenham Under 21s after defeats to Cambridge United and Stevenage.
