JOSH Ashby has signed a new contract with Oxford City.

The classy midfielder will remain at Court Place Farm next term after an excellent 2021/22.

Ashby bagged ten goals and ten assists as Ross Jenkins' side reached the Vanarama National League South play-off semi-finals, earning him a spot in the division’s team of the season.

The 26-year-old’s performances caught the eye of clubs higher up the pyramid, but the Oxford-born playmaker is targeting success in his home city.

He said: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract here.

“Last season was special and one of the best I’ve had at the club, so I’m glad to extend my contract and hopefully we’ll have another special season this year.

“The manager, fans and players have all been great with me and we’re all looking forward to next season.”

Ashby has made more than 150 appearances for City since joining the club in 2018 following his release by Oxford United.

The midfielder played seven times for the U’s, including five games in Sky Bet League Two.

He is the second City player to re-sign for next season after captain Reece Fleet's new deal was announced earlier this week.
