BEN Davis continued his good form on the international stage with another goal in Thailand Under 23s’ Asian Cup opener against Vietnam.

The Oxford United midfielder got his country off the mark for the tournament with a 34th minute equaliser. Vietnam retook the lead in the second half, but Thailand levelled again in stoppage-time to earn a 2-2 draw in the Group C clash.

Davis and his teammates face Malaysia on Sunday and South Korea on Wednesday as they seek to progress in the Under 23 tournament, which is being held in Uzbekistan.

It comes after the 21-year-old helped Thailand reach the final of the Southeast Asian Games last month, scoring a penalty in the 5-0 group-stage win over Singapore.

Elsewhere, former U’s right back George Baldock made his international debut in Greece’s 1-0 win in Northern Ireland.

The Sheffield United defender, who qualifies for the country through his grandmother, came on in stoppage-time at Windsor Park.

Former U’s loanee Gavin Whyte started the match before being replaced by Dion Charles in the 71st minute, while Ciaron Brown was an unused substitute.

Meanwhile, United midfielder Oisin Smyth could be in line for more game-time with Northern Ireland Under 21s this afternoon.

The 22-year-old is in the squad for his country’s Euro 2023 qualifier against Spain in Larne (1pm).

U’s centre back James Golding will hope to build on his Republic of Ireland Under 19s debut in tomorrow’s friendly against Iceland.

The 17-year-old was a late substitute in the first match of the double header between the sides on Wednesday.
