KARL Robinson is excited about the number of away days near to Oxford United next season.

The Sky Bet League One line-up for 2022/23 is complete following Port Vale’s win over Mansfield Town in the Sky Bet League Two play-off final on Saturday.

United could have been looking forward to games against arch-rivals Swindon Town or neighbours Northampton Town, but instead face a trip to Burslem next term.

Nevertheless, the U’s will have plenty of close away fixtures after Bristol Rovers and Forest Green Rovers were promoted from League Two, while Wycombe Wanderers and MK Dons failed in the play-offs.

Neither Portsmouth nor Cheltenham Town are far away either and, with several big hitters still in League One, Robinson is already relishing the new campaign.

United’s head coach said: “Having Bristol Rovers back in the league and Derby County coming down, Sheffield Wednesday still in the league as well as Portsmouth and Charlton and all these teams.

“MK Dons and Wycombe are staying, so we’ll be surrounding ourselves.

“There are a lot of local games in there. It’s so fun.”

Sunderland’s victory over Wycombe in last weekend’s League One play-off final significantly reduces the miles United will clock up next season.

The seven teams League One has lost – Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United, Sunderland, Gillingham, Doncaster Rovers, AFC Wimbledon and Crewe Alexandra – are 1,025 miles away in total.

That is 262 miles more than the combined distance of the new third-tier clubs: Peterborough United, Derby, Barnsley, Forest Green, Exeter City, Bristol Rovers and Port Vale.
