SOUTHAMPTON sealed promotion to the Women’s Championship, in the National League play-off final.

The Saints, who were the only team to finish above Oxford United Women in National League Southern Premier, beat Wolves 1-0 courtesy of a Sophia Pharoah strike midway through the first half.

Wolves then had Kelly Darby sent off just before half-time.

Both sides were champions of their respective National League divisions, with the play-off final ensuring promotion to the second tier.

It will be the first time Southampton have reached that level after being founded in 2017.

The Saints lost just once during the league campaign and drew both games with United – 1-1 at Court Place Farm in March and 3-3 in the reverse fixture last month.
