EDDIE Pepperell never recovered from a poor start as he missed the cut at the Soudal Open.

The Abingdon golfer carded four-over par at Rinkven International GC after three bogeys in his first six holes on day one.

It saw Pepperell miss the cut by five shots as his weekend ended early.

The Frilford Heath member faced an uphill battle as a result of a difficult first round in Antwerp.

Starting from the tenth, Pepperell bogeyed his opening two holes and dropped another shot at the 15th.

A birdie at the par-five 17th was cancelled out by a bogey at the first as he carded a three-over 74 on day one.

The 31-year-old’s second day was better and he looked on course for a comeback when he birdied the tenth and 11th after a string of pars on the front nine.

But Pepperell’s round quickly unravelled as bogeys at the 12th, 13th and 15th saw him end the day one-over.
