KARL Robinson has outlined which out of contract players he wants at Oxford United next season.

Eight members of the first-team squad see their terms expire this summer, although some have the option of a year’s extension.

Among them is James Henry, with the club able to trigger a further 12 months that would take the experienced midfielder’s United career into a sixth campaign.

Henry has made just six substitute appearances in 2022 after struggling with injuries and missed the last three games of the season after fracturing his nose at Fleetwood Town on Good Friday.

It came after the 32-year-old scored seven goals in the first half of the campaign and that contribution has not gone unnoticed.

U's head coach Robinson said: “James Henry is somebody we want here next year. We’ve had a conversation, he knows that.

“James Henry’s contribution at the beginning of the season was massive, but you forget about that because of how bad his back of the season has been.

“We know how important he is to the football club and he’s another player we want to be part of what we’re trying to achieve.”

Robinson also revealed Alex Gorrin has been offered a new deal. The Spanish midfielder has not played since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament against Bristol Rovers in November.

The U’s head coach picked a starting XI he expects to be at the club next season for the final-day draw against Doncaster Rovers.

Of that team only Billy Bodin is out of contract this summer, although United and the player have expressed a desire to extend his stay.

Mark Sykes was omitted from the squad and Robinson expects the Irishman to leave, with Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City understood to be interested.

The U’s boss also name-checked Sam Winnall and Jamie Hanson when he mentioned players who will exit this summer.

Robinson said: “I think it’s evident, you know the loan players go back to their clubs.

“Sam Winnall’s contract is up, Sykesy’s contract is up, he’ll obviously move on as well. Jamie Hanson’s is up as well.”

Loanees Ciaron Brown, Gavin Whyte and Nathan Holland were on the bench against Doncaster, while Herbie Kane was unavailable with a groin injury.

Robinson has previously said United will trigger an option in Elliott Moore’s deal, with the centre back unavailable on the final day after his wife went into labour hours earlier.

Sam Baldock was another out of contract player who missed the last game of the season as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained in early March.

The striker joined in February, signing a deal until the end of the campaign, and scored four goals in seven matches before he was sidelined.

Robinson will speak to United’s board in the coming days to plan summer recruitment and knows what he wants.

He said: “Our shareholders are over this week. We’ve got meetings on Monday and Tuesday about the budget and what we want to do.

“I said to you that players who played I want here next year.

“I want Billy Bodin here, Sam Baldock is obviously somebody else I want here.

“Those are players I know I want for next season, that’s a positive.”
