A TERRIFIC final round earned Eddie Pepperell his best result for almost a year at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain.

The Abingdon golfer shot a five-under par 65 on day four in Tarragona, moving him to six-under for the tournament.

It saw Pepperell tie for 15th, his highest finish since claiming 11th at the Betfred British Masters last May.

The Frilford Heath member’s end to the event followed an unremarkable first three days.

Pepperell carded a one-over par 71 for his opening round as a birdie at the 18th hole followed bogeys at the sixth and 13th.

A solid second day ensured he reached the weekend at a tournament for the first time in 2022, as the 31-year-old carded two-under thanks to birdies at the 11th, 13th, 17th and fourth.

The only blemish was a double bogey seven at the par-five 16th, but Pepperell still made the weekend by two shots.

He continued in a similar vein on day three, picking up birdies at the third, 13th and 18th.

There were also bogeys at the sixth, tenth and 15th.

The best was yet to come as Pepperell shot up the leaderboard on the final day.

Starting at the tenth, birdies at four of his first six holes were followed by a bogey at the 17th, before he picked up another shot at the 18th.

Pepperell managed four more birdies, sandwiched by a double bogey at the first and another dropped shot at the final hole.
