OXFORD Quins held their nerve to secure the South West 1 East title with a 51-30 win over Chippenham.

The hosts could not afford to slip up at Horspath Sports Ground, with Banbury Bulls three points behind.

And Quins ran in eight tries, Joakim Antoniou scoring a hat-trick, to spark scenes of celebration.

They took the title despite a five-point deduction, which could have been increased if their senior and age-group teams picked up five red cards combined this season.

Facilities manager James Knox said: “We had a Sword of Damocles hanging over us, but our disciplinary record has been excellent.”

Banbury did all they could with a 38-27 win at fifth-placed Witney.

The north Oxfordshire side will also be promoted.

Grove finished 11th after losing 33-7 at Newbury Blues.
