LIAM Gilbert says his Oxford United Women side will face a wounded Ipswich Town, after missing out on the title to Southampton.

The battle between the three sides came to an end on Wednesday when Southampton beat Portsmouth 2-0, to clinch National League Southern Premier.

Two wins from their last five saw the U’s lose ground on the top two, but Gilbert is still proud of his players.

He said: “We have given it absolutely everything all season, and we will do that again on Sunday, and then in our last two games: that’s the only way we know to do things.

“Credit to Southampton, who have been relentless all season and shown what a good team they are.

“It takes a bit of character to win matches you have in hand on other teams, especially when the pressure is on.

“Ipswich will be hurt at losing top spot and that is going to make for a very good game.

“We beat them earlier in the season, as well as drawing with Southampton, so we are absolutely determined to show once again that we can compete at the top of this league.

“We have had a weekend with no game, so we are fresh for these last three matches and we will travel up to Ipswich really looking forward to the game.”
