CAMERON Brannagan says Oxford United cannot get sidetracked by other teams’ results as they aim to prolong their play-off push.

The U’s are next in action tomorrow night when they host MK Dons, but today’s Sky Bet League One games will have a bearing on their top-six hopes.

Play-off contenders Plymouth Argyle and Sunderland do battle at Home Park, while sixth-placed Wycombe Wanderers go to struggling AFC Wimbledon.

United need results to go their way, but Brannagan insists his only focus is tomorrow’s game at the Kassam Stadium.

“It’s pointless even looking at the table, all we know is we have to win every game and that’s what we look forward to,” the midfielder said.

“We’re coming into the last three games and we know how important every game is.

“It’s going to be really tough because they’re a good side.

“We’re going to have to be at our best and hopefully it’s going to be enough to get the three points.”

Eighth-placed United are four points behind Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers and Sunderland after each team won their first game of the Easter weekend.

The U’s are on 72 points with three matches of the season remaining, so could conceivably reach 81 and still miss out on the play-offs.

The last time a team needed more than that to finish sixth in the third tier was 2000, when Stoke City snuck in on 82.

United could have done with MK getting a result against Wednesday on Saturday night, but the visitors claimed an impressive 3-2 win.

It ended the home side’s 15-match unbeaten run and left them third in League One, behind Rotherham United on goal difference.

The U’s have struggled to turn performances into results against the rest of League One’s top half, taking just 19 points from 20 games this season.

Brannagan knows that record must improve to keep themselves in the hunt, with tomorrow’s clash followed by a trip to Rotherham on Saturday.

The 25-year-old said: “If you want to get to the next level you need to beat the best teams.

“They’re a good side, but we know what we’re capable of.

“What have we got to lose? We have to win every game, so we might as well go for it and give it everything we’ve got.”
