KARL Robinson was thrilled to see Oxford United rediscover their ruthless streak at Fleetwood Town – but felt they should have been further ahead at half-time.

The U’s took 16 minutes to score the same number of goals as they managed in their previous four matches as Nathan Holland, Cameron Brannagan and Billy Bodin put them in charge.

Mark Sykes and Matty Taylor spurned good chances later in the half as Fleetwood fought back, but United held on to win the Sky Bet League One clash 3-2.

RATINGS: Every Oxford United player marked out of 10 for Fleetwood display

The U’s have been thwarted by a poor end product and impressive goalkeeping performances in recent weeks, with Robinson pleased to see a change at Highbury.

“It’s a case of the goalie not making wonder saves,” United’s head coach said.

“There have been a lot of chances that we’ve fluffed in certain games and we were clinical (at Fleetwood).

“We probably could have been more clinical – we were critical of ourselves at half-time that it wasn’t more than three.

“We still had chances to get four or five and that wasn’t to be.

“To score three away from home at any time of the season is brilliant.”

United have scored 79 goals in 43 League One games, their fifth-highest total in a Football League season.

They need five in their final three matches to go joint third with the 1984/85 and 2015/16 campaigns.

The club record is 1983/84, when they scored 91 times on their way to the Division Three title.
