OXFORD United have the chance to ease some of the concerns around their potential move to Stratfield Brake, says OxVox chair Paul Peros.

The U’s were yesterday given the green light to enter detailed discussions with Oxfordshire County Council officers about leasing the land, south of Kidlington.

It came after the council’s cabinet agreed the U’s need to provide more information about their plans before beginning formal negotiations.

A four-week public consultation showed significant support for the proposal, but members of the community raised issues surrounding traffic, parking and the impact on the environment.

And Peros believes this next step of the process presents an opportunity.

“A lot of those issues are the same issues we’ve been speaking about for a while,” the chair of the club’s independent supporters’ trust said.

“It was important not to pre-empt planning, but they can start to show a little bit more about what they hope to do and hopefully we can allay a lot of the fears about how this project is going to play out.

“It’s a really positive decision and there were some really positive comments from councillors.

“Obviously questions were brought up, but the club always knew that and have been planning the next stage.

“They now have the chance to show they can deal with those issues.”
