OISIN Smyth will join up with Northern Ireland Under 21s for this month’s games in Slovakia and France.

The midfielder is the third Oxford United player to receive an international call-up for this round of fixtures, after Gavin Whyte and Ciaron Brown were named in Northern Ireland’s senior squad.

Sky Bet League One clubs have the option to rearrange a fixture if they have at least three first-team players away with their countries, but Smyth does not qualify as he has not made enough appearances.

The 21-year-old January signing is yet to make his U’s debut and has been an unused substitute twice.

It means United are still one call-up short of having the option to postpone their League One trip to Morecambe on March 26.

Smyth will join up with his country as they continue their Under 21 European Championship qualifying campaign in Zilina, Slovakia, a week tomorrow.

Northern Ireland's youngsters then take on France's Under 21s in an international challenge match in Calais next Monday.

Smyth has played seven times for his country’s Under 21s, making his debut against Scotland last June.

Northern Ireland were due to face Russia four days after their game in Slovakia, but that game has been postponed following the invasion of Ukraine.
