FIVE of Oxford United’s promotion rivals boosted their bid to reach the Sky Bet Championship with wins last night.

While the U’s were beating Thame United in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-final, six of Sky Bet League One’s top 11 were in action.

Only Bolton Wanderers dropped points, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s 94th-minute strike rescuing a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Morecambe.

That could leave Ian Evatt’s side with too much ground to make up in the play-off race, with The Trotters on 55 points with nine matches remaining.

Unfortunately for United, who sit fourth, the other five teams around them all won.

Third-place MK Dons are now seven points clear of the U’s after their 3-1 home victory over Cheltenham Town.

Meanwhile, Sunderland climbed to fifth as their 3-1 comeback win over Fleetwood Town moved them to within two points of United.

Plymouth Argyle also ended the night in the play-off places, beating AFC Wimbledon 2-0 to go sixth.

Ipswich Town, in ninth, are six points behind the U’s after their 2-0 home win over Lincoln City. They visit the Kassam Stadium in ten days’ time.

Elsewhere, Portsmouth continued their good form as a 3-1 triumph at Crewe Alexandra put them tenth.

Last night’s results mean the top eight in League One all have more than 60 points at this stage of the season for the first time since 2002.

United return to action at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
