GAVIN Whyte insists he is not thinking about next season as his Oxford United loan draws closer to a conclusion.

The forward scored his first goal of the campaign against Burton Albion on Saturday, firing into the top corner from 20 yards in a 4-1 victory for the U’s.

Whyte also set up Matty Taylor’s stunning volley to go outright second in the Sky Bet League One assists chart with ten.

It was the sort of performance United fans hoped for when the Northern Ireland international returned on a season-long loan from Cardiff City.

Whyte joined the Bluebirds in 2019 after an impressive first year in English football with the U’s and is due to return to Wales this summer.

United only have nine games left this season, plus a potential play-off campaign, but the 26-year-old says his future is not at the forefront of his mind.

Whyte said: “I haven’t really thought about it too much, I’m just taking it in the moment.

“I can’t really look too far ahead, I love being here and I just want to play as many games as I can until the end of the season.

“The reason I came here is because I loved it so much when I was first here.

“It’s a great club, great people, great fans and I felt at home when I first came here.”
