EDDIE Pepperell bowed out of another tournament at the halfway stage as he fell agonisingly short at the Kenya Open.

The Abingdon golfer missed the cut by one shot at Muthaiga GC, Nairobi, despite an improved second round bringing him to one-over par for the event.

The damage was done on day one for the Frilford Heath member, who began his opening round with bogeys at the first and second holes.

Birdies at the third and sixth returned Pepperell to level par, but the back nine proved costly.

The 31-year-old picked up another shot at the tenth, only for a double-bogey at the par-three 13th and bogeys at the 14th and 16th to set him back.

It saw the two-time European Tour winner card a three-over par 74 on day one, but he almost pulled it back in his second round.

Pepperell again picked up a shot at the tenth, although that was cancelled out by a bogey at the 17th.

A big finish included birdies at the fourth, seventh and eighth holes, but he dropped a shot at the fifth to card two-under for the day.

Pepperell, who is yet to make the cut after three events in 2022, is scheduled to play at the MyGolfLife Open in South Africa next week.
