MARCUS Browne and Mark Sykes are doubts for Oxford United’s clash with Burton Albion on Saturday, according to Karl Robinson.

Meanwhile, James Henry is set to have a scan today after feeling stiffness in his groin before the midweek defeat to Portsmouth.

Browne made his first start since January 2021 at Fratton Park, scoring inside three minutes only to come off with a hamstring issue after an hour mark.

Mark Sykes: Contract talks not a distraction from promotion push

The forward, who returned after nearly 14 months out through injury as a late substitute against Cambridge United last weekend, is due to have a scan today.

Robinson said: “It’s not as bad as what we thought.

“He might miss the game at the weekend, but we’re quite comfortable with that. We knew he’d have to dip in and out in this period.

“We have to get him near to fatigue for his body to become more robust after being out for so long.

“We always knew he was going to be for next season more than this season, but in the games he has been available he’s made an impact.”

Henry also returned from injury as a substitute against Cambridge, but felt a ‘niggle’ in his groin while warming-up against Portsmouth.

Sykes, one of United’s stand-out players this season, missed the trip to Fratton Park with a chest issue and Robinson is still unsure if the midfielder will be available against Burton.

The head coach said: “It’s improved a little bit, but maybe not quick enough for the game at the weekend.”

Even if all three miss out against Burton, Robinson feels the U’s have enough options in midfield and attack to cope.

He said: “We’re under the players we want going into the game, but we still have a good squad so it’s not something I’m overly worried about.

“When we’ve been challenged this season, we’ve answered the questions really well.”
