MORE than 3,500 people responded to the public consultation on Oxford United’s proposed move to Stratfield Brake.

The online survey ran for four weeks and closed last night, with Oxfordshire County Council now set to analyse the findings ahead of its next cabinet meeting on March 15.

The results will help officers decide whether to recommend that the council enters into negotiations with the U’s to lease land at Stratfield Brake for 250 years.

United have earmarked the sports ground, south of Kidlington, to build an 18,000-capacity stadium, community and sports grounds and hotel, retail and conference facilities.

The council’s cabinet was recommended to approve the club's proposal at its meeting on January 18, but instead voted to defer to allow the four-week consultation to take place.

Earlier today, United released a statement thanking everyone who completed the survey.

The club said: “We have consistently said that we welcome viewpoints from the whole community, want to understand the priorities of local residents as well as our fans and we have found the process very useful in this regard.

“We hope that the feedback helps the council see the whole picture on what we believe would be a fantastic opportunity for Kidlington and Oxfordshire as a whole, not just the club.”

The cabinet has already instructed officers to begin ‘exploratory talks’ with the club and its tenants at Stratfield Brake about leasing the land.

United’s 25-year lease at the Kassam Stadium expires in 2026.
