OXFORD United Women missed the opportunity to go top of the league after their game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

United were due to travel to Hounslow tonight in the National League Southern Premier, but the match was called off.

A win would’ve sent the U’s to the top of the table, with league leaders Ipswich Town not in action.

United are two points behind Ipswich, but with a game in hand.

In what is opening up as a three-way battle for the title, Southampton currently sit four points behind United but have the advantage of three games in hand on the U’s.

Last time out, United won 2-1 at London Bees, a result which extended their winning run in the league to seven games.

Goals in each half from Beth Lumsden and Daisy McLachlan, either side of a Danielle Puddefoot strike, were enough to secure the win.

The fixture against Hounslow will now be rearranged, while tickets will be valid for the new date.

United’s home league match against Southampton on Sunday has also been postponed, due to international call-ups.
